I never understood why selling sexual service is inherently demeaning for women. People need to realize that the sex industry is very complex and that sex workers are actually in charge of those sexualized spaces in a sense.
Moreover, clients are not necessarily the filthy predator many people imagine to be. They are human beings with the human complexities we all possess. Criminalizing buying sexual service simply makes no sense.
#Radfems will undoubtedly deny it, but what they've been doing is basically dressing up Victorian sexual mores in their "radical" ideology and call it "feminist analysis". Too bad so many "progressives" are fooled.

Of course there's such thing as white privilege, as well as male privilege, straight privilege, cis privilege, Christian privilege, etc. Those who deny this obvious reality have their heads buried in the sand. Please note that the privileges I mentioned are all *unearned* --
that is, privileges one was born w or gained by association w a certain group rather than earned thru personal effort. To receive higher education is an earned privilege cuz you have to do well in high school, but there's no effort needed to enjoy privileges of the unearned sort.
I'm against unearned privileges simply becuz it is unfair. This has *nothing* to do with identity politics. If you find the above hard to swallow, that's probably becuz you enjoy some sort of unearned privilege w/o being aware of it, and you have some serious contemplation to do.

There are currently 3 major factors hindering the progress of #transgender acceptance:

1. People have been spoon-fed too much misinformation about us, most of which originated from #radfem circles -- no surprise here -- and then got picked up by conservative media. (1/4)
2. Too many writers would rather engage in pseudo-philosophical debates on whether trans women are "categorically female" while ignoring the rich ethnocultural data about the societal roles found in various cultures analogous to what the West now dubs "trans women". (2/4)
3. Trans activists also have themselves to blame by focusing on the messy, unfalsifiable "gender theory" instead of practicalities -- like how transition usually takes years of intensive resocialization and how HRT transforms us physically, psychologically and sexually. (3/4)

Left-wing Americans suffer from a curious case of inferiority complex to Europe, by which they really mean Western Europe and Scandinavia. To them, the Old World still boasts the best way of life -- the crème de la crème in a world of crass Americanisms and third-world despots.
Never mind that America is actually far ahead of Europe in certain respects, like its strong protection of and reverence to freedom of speech, something even Noam Chomsky approves of, and its liberal immigration policy, which is still better than that of Europe even under Trump.
This inferiority complex also reflects on Americans' perception of their neighbors in the North. English Canada is utterly boring to them because it is "too like America", but Quebec never fails to inspire fascination and mystique in the American mind due to its "Frenchness".

Those are blood-soaked lap sponges used in surgery. They're opened in packs of 10 and discarded when saturated. The OR nurse packs them in bags of 10 for ease of counting. Elective surgery may use approx 10-15 laps (~100 cc of blood loss). I see at least 220 (>2L) laps here.
Even though there may be 2-3 L of blood in the sponges, people need to realize the amount of blood in the suction canister may be magnitudes larger. The images, while graphic, are tame in comparison to what we see daily. These are just the ones that are ok for social media.

A major focus for us is preventing criminalisation of sex work. Today is the 2 yr anniversary of the Sexual Offenses Act in Ireland, which criminalised the purchase of sex, and doubled already existing penalties for escorts working in pairs or groups. #DecrimForSafety
Client criminalisation was introduced purportedly to protect vulnerable people in sex work, but instead it has created "buyers' market" with clients having the bargaining power. #DecrimForSafety #SupportSafeSexWork @swaiireland

People need to realize that we grew up in a culture that routinely abuses people and has actively created systems around legitimizing that abuse.

We have to realize that we have been abusive. Repeatedly. We grew up being socialized to do that shit.
Some are more abused than others because our social hierarchy said it was not just okay to abuse us, but required to be successful.

And people have bought into this message at every level. EVERY LEVEL.
We have all gaslighted someone. You know why? Because emotionally manipulating someone to get your way is acceptable. Lying is acceptable.

People need to realize when they constantly demonize scooters, they plant a seed in people's minds that person on scooter = bad.

Cyclists face this every day: Drivers threatening us w/ violence because they're sociopaths who don't believe we have right to use streets we pay for.
Reason I have zero tolerance for even the "reasonable takes" about how scooters should be tightly regulated is, only someone who has no experience with driver violence - or, more likely, doesn't care - could write such a take with a straight face.

Trump era has us talking a lot about how media demonizing classes of people can lead to acts of violence against those people.
