Hello on this gorgeous spring morning from SCOTUS, where the justices are hearing a big one: Whether the Trump administration can add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census. Lower courts repeatedly have ruled against the government, and now we're at the final stop. Stay tuned. 
Here's @dominicholden on the ruling in January from Manhattan federal judge Jesse Furman blocking the administration from putting the citizenship Q on the 2020 Census: buzzfeednews.com/article/domini… Furman wrote the Q "was unlawful for a multitude of independent reasons"
The challengers argue adding a citizenship question would lead to a lower, less accurate count — the census determines everything from congressional districts to federal budgets — because it would scare off households that include noncitizens from filling out the questionnaire
The admin. argues adding the Q is well within Commerce Sec. Wilbur Ross's authority, that the agency followed the proper processes in adding it, and that any alleged harms to the challengers aren't the govt's fault — it's on individuals to comply with their respon. to fill it out
