The fight over redactions in Mueller's report is just getting started: At a court hearing today in FOIA cases filed by BuzzFeed News/@JasonLeopold and @EPICprivacy, the judge set a series of deadlines stretching into the summer
DOJ is set to provide a copy of the report that'll be largely identical to the redacted version that's public, but with markings specific to what they're withholding as exempt under FOIA — that's set to come by Monday
EPIC's lawyer said today that they and BuzzFeed plan to challenge all of the redactions. The judge expressed skepticism about that, noting the govt can definitely withhold certain info under FOIA, such as grand jury material
The govt is due to file its motion for summary judgment, which will include declarations laying out the specific explanations for why they're withholding various info, by *June 3.* Briefing back and forth on that ends July 15, and the judge set a status conference for Aug. 5
The judge won't decide yet if he needs to see the entire, unredacted version of the report to decide the case. He'll consider arguments about that during the summary judgment briefing
EPIC is separately seeking other docs related to Mueller's investigation. That's going to move even slower — the govt has to provide an update on processing those docs by June 17, but the DOJ lawyer said today it'll depend on how long it takes to move docs out of Mueller's office
