Cross-posting can be a great social media strategy for your business if you do it right! We'd like to take this opportunity to thank @LifeWithAshleyT for tagging @ZellaQuixote in an automated tweet for no good reason, or we'd never have learned this valuable insight!
At present, @LifeWithAshleyT is largely automated; most tweets are posted via paper(dot)li, with Facebook and Instagram crossposts (the latter via IFTTT) making up much of the remainder of the traffic. This account has tried a variety of automation tools over the years.
What does the automated content posted by @LifeWithAshleyT via paper(dot)li look like? The tweets consist of the phrase ("The latest The Modern Connection Daily!" combined with a link, the hashtags #marketing and #socialmedia, and unsolicited mentions of 1-3 Twitter accounts.
The linked content in @LifeWithAshleyT's automated tweets doesn't stick around forever (the "papers" appear to be purged after a month) but the tweets remain, handily outliving their raison d'être. #AndYouWillKnowUsByTheTrailOfDeadLinks
We were unable to determine exactly how paper(dot)li chooses accounts to tag. Of 7106 tagged accounts, only 960 (11.5%) follow @LifeWithAshleyT, so it doesn't appear to be based on follower relationships. 463 of the accounts (6.5%) retweeted one or more of the automated tweets.
Of those 463 accounts, 36 (7.8%) are themselves bots, based on 24/7 activity or posting 90%+ of tweets via automation tools. 231 (49.9%) are at least partially automated, posting 10% or more of their tweets via an automation service. #BotsAllTheWayDown
