The Most Blatant Signs of a Malignant Narcissist
1) SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT: A malignant narcissist has constant unreasonable expectations of favorable treatment. They also feel entitled enough that they believe other people should automatically comply with their expectations.
2) EXAGGERATED SENSE OF SELF-IMPORTANCE: Excessive confidence & expectation to be recognized as superior, despite lacking corresponding achievements. Exaggerate or lie about accomplishments/talents. Lack innate sense of right & wrong to ever come clean to the people they deceive
3) PREOCCUPATION W/ FANTASIES OF POWER: Constantly thinking about their power, success, & brilliance, thus tend to seek out leadership/high-profile positions. B/c of need to be center of attention, when they aren't they spend time fantasizing/planning ways that they can get there
4) GRANDIOSITY: Believe they are so unique that they can't be understood by anyone who isn't at their top-level status. Have an unrealistic sense of superiority, believe they are better than everyone else and look upon other “inferior” people with contempt.
(GRANDIOSITY cont): Only desire 2 associate w/ high-status people or institutions & only want to be associated w/ others perceived as being successful, rich, & beautiful. Take special privileges/resources that aren't theirs d/t belief they deserve them b/c of their superiority
5) PARANOIA: They feel excessive suspicion without any justification. They believe other people are plotting against them or over-analyze everything that other people say. They are often quick to criticize others but certainly are not open to criticism themselves.
6) EGOCENTRICITY: Talk about themselves all the time, fishes for compliments, & acts like the world revolves around them. A person who is simply egocentric can still accept someone else's view. Malignant narcissists become enraged if someone doesn't see things their way.
7) LACK OF EMPATHY: They have absolutely no remorse or conscience. Never feel any remorse for their actions. Lack the ability to comprehend what other people may be feeling or to empathize with others. Often believe that they have been the victims of the mistreatment.
8) CRUEL AND SADISTIC: Malignant narcissists can be especially cruel to the point where they actually enjoy causing other people pain, either mentally or physically. A malignant narcissist is willing to inflict harm upon or humiliate another person and enjoy the process.
9) MANIPULATION: Manipulates or attempts to constantly. Not interested in other people unless they are using the other person as a vehicle to help them gain control in some way. May seem charismatic, genuine, and appreciative, but they often resort to gaslighting.
10) PROJECTION: Transmits their actions onto someone else. Avoids recognizing their own shortcomings by attributing them to others. May be aware that shortcomings exist, but they would never admit them. They simply insist that everyone else is guilty of doing what they're doing.
11) REQUIRES EXCESSIVE ADMIRATION: They require constant attention & admiration to alleviate their own deep insecurity and self-loathing. Want to be welcomed w/ adoration & want others to feel indebted & awed b/c the malignant narcissist has gifted them with their presence.
12) INTERPERSONAL EXPLOITATION: Expect to be given whatever they want, despite the cost to others. Typically only form relationships w/ those they presume can advance their motives. Give the relationship only as much time/effort as is absolutely required to get what they want.
13) ENVIOUS OF OTHERS: Malignant narcissists often resent other people's successes or possessions because they feel more deserving of these things.
They may brutally belittle the contributions of others, especially when others are receiving acknowledgment for their achievements.
14) THEY EASILY LASH OUT: They get very angry and are willing to humiliate others at the most minor offenses. Prone to making a counterattacks on critics. Because they have a hyper-sensitive and fragile egos, they have to convince people that they are always right.
15) SEE THE WORLD IN ONLY BLACK & WHITE: Others are either friends or enemies. Things are either good or bad, right or wrong. This is one reason why they can't accept their own failures. Failure is impossible to confront b/c of extreme amount of energy placed on being right.
16) THEY SEEK TO WIN AT ALL COSTS: They won't give up until they make themselves feel (and look) superior. They will do anything to prevent themselves from experiencing loss, failure, inconvenience, embarrassment, humiliation, appearing less than, or as a loser.
17) DECEITFULNESS: They are often deceitful to get personal profit or pleasure, including power, money, & sex. They regularly lie, malinger, con people, and are known to use aliases to get their needs met. Many will become enraged if their lies are challenged by truth or facts.
18) DEPENDENT ON OTHERS' VIEW OF THEM: They are completely dependent on the world's views of them. They need the world to constantly feed them the message that they are the best of the best and superior. Any negative opinion from others will cause excessive pain, rage, & upset
19) REJECT SOCIAL NORMS: They don't find value in acting according to social norms b/c they believe society is beneath them. They don't value integrity or honesty & are willing to do illegal things w/o having a second thought.
20) NOT INTROSPECTIVE: They're never introspective. They never look at themselves & wonder what they could have done wrong or differently. They spend a lot of time obsessing over themselves, but they don't spend time considering how their words or actions impact others.
21) INSECURE ATTACHMENTS: They form insecure attachments w/ others. Relationship bonds are contaminated by fear. B/c they have a deep-seated low self-esteem, they're constantly paranoid people will turn against them. They love/need people to follow them so they can rise to power.
22) ATTEMPT TO ELICIT EMPATHY: They try to get empathy through lies/exaggerations of truth & by talking about others who have hurt them w/ an aggressive edge of anger.. They may present themselves as a victim, while also being bold & charming, so people will want to support them.
23) WILLING TO HURT PEOPLE: They're quick to hurt someone emotionally, but also to hurt people physically. They will not hesitate to use physical force and will become violent during fights/disagreements w/ others in which their superiority is being questioned.
