I'm glad Olivia Munn has moved on from being the kind of person who bragged about sleeping with men of different races so she could have the right to make racist jokes. It would be terrible for her to tear other people down like that.

Let me be clear on a few things:

Olivia Munn got a lot of undeserved flack over the years from men & women alike for her persona & work.
Olivia Munn spent a lot of time telling super dark punching-down jokes that benefitted said persona.
Olivia Munn is wrong about the Fug Girls.
And I am glad she's moved on from being the Cool Girl who dons the mantle of hipster racism to please men in power. She's a much better actress & celeb presence for it. But it is not any blogger or journalists' job to be her PR wing or for her to wield her power unfairly.
I'm not sure why we've all gone sideways this week with the "meanie critics versus poor disempowered celebrities" angle that diminishes our dang jobs. It's boring at best & outright dangerous for the mostly women put in the crossfires by those who should know better.
Don't think I don't fucking see the threats of violence being directed at these women critics and bloggers. Don't think I don't see it all the damn time for the most pointless of issues, wielded as an excuse to get us to shut up. Don't think we don't know what that means.

That Instagram influencer I occasionally check in on because she's The Worst is now charging $165 for a 4 hour "seminar" on how to be yourself.
Important update: Said "influencer" just put down a deposit on a venue for her "seminar" and is conveniently upping the number of available spots for attendees. Methinks she just realized how pricey her scam was going to be and is now trying to widen those profit margins.
Further update: The "influencer" sold out her seminars! So she's netting a gross profit of like $15k (more than my annual wage), so pardon me if I spend today feeling like hard work and talent are a tad pointless.

Banksy is just Jeff Koons in a hoodie. Same level of self-importance and weak clouding of profit hunting in "subversion". At least Damien Hirst is open about the fact that he often makes art for money.
Always up for shitting on Banksy. I think his work is weak, uninspired & too often relies on pathetically easy targets yet he doesn't bring anything new to the table.
Oh, Disneyland is too cheery and artificial, you say? Heavens, my monocle flew off.

When Zelda fans talk about WW Ganondorf, it's usually re: him being the most sympathetic version of Ganon, or the most sympathetic character in Zelda.

I'ma take a minute to go over why he's the most evil Ganondorf has ever been. Probably the most evil Nintendo character, period.

2/ “Being a VC” can mean a lot of different things, so it’s worth asking:

What actual activities do you want to do?

- Deep market analysis?
- Be in the flow of information and people?
- Make deals?
- Work closely w/ founders over time (e.g take board seats?)
- Manage capital?
3/ It’s worth specifying what type of VC you might like to become — as there are different archetypes. E.g.

- Benchmark (Lead series A/B - couple investments a year)
- First Round (Lead seed rounds, partner w/ a few companies a year)
- SV Angel (Make lots of seed investments)

I was asked an interesting question at Ringling College last night, and I have something else to say about it. "How do we help men who can't write women well?" was the question, and I gave a kind and tolerant answer. Try to teach them. Beta their work. Hope for the best. BUT. 1/
I also added that the reading public votes with their dollars. Buy the books with well-written women who are not objects, damsels, vessels, or plot points. Spread the word about them. Email the publisher. And don't buy the books that do a bad job. Leave honest reviews. BUT. 2/
