One other historical quibble: the article completely skips over the pogroms in Ukraine in the Civil War (1918-1922). Some 100,000 killed, mostly by locals. Historian Peter Kenez calls it the worst organized slaughter of Jews until Hitler.
Oops, another historical quibble: the piece says anti-Semitism was “not officially promoted by the Soviet authorities.” That is 100% wrong. It was.
The article refutes itself in the next sentence: “He found out only when classmates in school saw records that gave his “nationality” as Jewish.” These were official state records, all of them, that listed our nationality not as Soviet, but Jewish.
