Greatest movies in the MCU 22 film, 11 year story arc:
1. Ironman
2. Avengers #1
3. Ragnarok
4. Avengers Endgame
(I know you disagree, but you are wrong)
I said "greatest" not "best", as I'm using a different yardstick. Ironman is the greatest not only because it was very good, but how it sets everything in motion. It starts an ambitious plan that somehow worked over the next 11 years.
Likewise, the first Avengers movie is very good, but what makes it great is that it actually was very good. Hollywood can stick 6 of your favorite superheroes in a movie and fanboys will flock to it no matter how bad it is, so it doesn't have to be good. But it was.
You have 10 major characters, all with their own story arcs, fighting for attention in the movie. It's impossible that this can actually be good. But Josh Whedon somehow succeeded agains all odds, making Avengers great.
The first two Thor movies were a bit lackluster, being a little too serious. The third, Ragnarok, became the most enjoyable movie of the MCU franchise, the one most worthy of rewatching. Also, best use of Led Zepplin's "Immigrant" song ever in a film.
Finally, we have Endgame. After the downer of the previous Infinity War, it was hard to see how it could come back. But surprisingly, it does. It's occasionally funny, but also a tear jerker.
Endgame is definitively the end, wrapping everything up. There is no end-credits scene linking to the next movie, because the story is done. Oh, sure, the MCU will continue, with many characters returning in new movies, but this story is done. And that's really satisfying.
So in conclusion, Marvel's MCU, starting from Ironman, through Avengers and Ragnarok, and finally ending in Endgame, is the best 22 film series EVER. Fite me.
