And
What Rights Patients Don't Have
- -
Assume
I want to Go from Chennai to Delhi in a Flight
I have Many Rights
1. Right to Choose
2. Right to Safety
3. Right to Information
But
I don't have many rights too
Which Airlines
Which Time
Which Class
Which Seat Front or Back
Which Seat Window or Aisle
Which Food Veg or Non Veg
I also have the right to know
How Much Baggage Allowed
Which Terminal
Which Gate
How to Put on Safety Belt
Which Conveyor Belt my Luggage will come
Fortunately (or unfortunately, if you are an "eager consumer") my right ends here
I don't have the right
To Decide Flight Route
To Decide Which Runway to Take Off
To Decide the VR Rotation speed
To Decide How Much Fuel to Carry
These are all technical Decisions which I am not qualified to make
Also
I cannot expect my Pilot to Ask Permission to me
I cannot expect my Pilot to Ask Permission to me for Each Stat Deployment, Pitch Up, or other Manouvres
While Being a Passenger Gives me a lot of Rights
It still does not give me everything I demand or Everything I like
Being a Passenger does not permit me to ask useless questions to Pilots or Cabin Crew
Being a Passenger does not give me a right to ask the cabin crew explain everything to
Being a Passenger does not give me a right to be rude with the Crew
Being a Passenger does not give me a right to demand 3 flights from my town
About What rights a passenger has and what he does not have
The Lakshman Rekha is clear and distinct
But Sadly
When it comes to Patients and Hospitals
It is assumed that Patients have right over everything
Whatever they demand is assumed as right
But
Doctors and Healthcare workers are forced to accomodate
Going an extramile to help one patient is perfectly fine
But
Not at the cost of every other patient
This is the most important point
Media, Political Parties and many times Govt too immediately support that demand without asking a simple question
IF THIS DEMAND IS IMPLEMENTED, will other patients get affected
Without this question, the demand is accepted
Few of these demands reduce mortality (death) and morbidity
For Example
1. Need of Fire Safety
2. Need of Laminar Flow
3. Need to have Wheel Chair and Stretcher at Gate
4. Check Lists
5. Transparent Fees
7. Time Outs
But
Most of the demands have no impact whatsover in Patient Care
But
Merely serve to boost the ego of the patient or relatives of both
What is Wrong in Ego Boost, you may ask
This ego boost comes at a very high cost
Cost of Time and Money
If we are honest enough to do a proper evaluation
Identify
which regulations actually improve patient care as a whole
Which regulations are just for #EgoBoost
And
Have the courage
Availability
Accesibility
Affordability
are the most important factors in health Care
And
#EgoMassage comes after this
We can save more lives
We can Reduce more disabilities
But
No one is even ready to look this problem
No one (except me, of course) is even ready to look this problem from scientific angle
But
Want to approach this from Emotional Angle
or
From their ego
-
For those who are ready to look from scientific Angle
Let me ask a simple question
Are you ready
Is Consent for Blood Transfusion needed or not
(as per current law, it is needed.
My question is, does it serve any purpose at all)
If Your answer is YES
The second Question is
or
Is that a #EgoMassage Measure
If it serves Scientific Purpose, please specify
If it is just #EgoMassage or for #ConsumerCourts
Ask your conscience
Whether the time and money involved in this informed consent is worth for the egos
