Just doing some digging. #Pain is extremely nuanced. And the approach should also. W my kids #health & #pain there has been continued lack of knowledge, assumptions, & unwillingness to understand.

I'm so tired of being told : you need to change doctors, find someone who will listen to me etc. Do you know know what it's like in reality ?
First of all. There's no one available. They don't take new patients. Appointments are in months or years. Second money. Third if you
have severe mecfs or very severe you can't go and just find a new doctor. 4. i did that for years. No one listened. No one. Or if one did they had no Idea what to do or put me in danger or sent me to other doctors who treated me like not a human. 5. Each travel to another apptmt
undergoing painful exams being gaslit for years and treated like i wasn't sick it was not enough my pain concerns and words never mattered. 6. The crashes after each apptmt. Physical pain. Suffering. Until being bedbound for weeks and months. 7. The mental toll of all of this and

Medical trauma sucks. You know need medicine, it's logical & it can help. But it doesn't stand aside from the fact that in years gone by you have faced discrimination, gaslighting, & years of experimentally failed treatments based on the latter that has prolonged your hell 1/ 🧵
The lowest places have been places where you have not been listened to, & served more fresh hell, to a metabolism that dances at the fringes or normal, and barely dips a toe in. You are been 'the healthiest, most dysfunctional person you know' you joke... 2/
You minimum does is too much for me, I don't want more - I want right. I know what I can handle, I experience how it feels.
I have lead my care, I have led my needs, I have fought for myself & I have been my own advocate from places I have no idea where I got the energy from...3/

I continually see research papers and presentations given on how #childhood #trauma relates to likelihood of #chronicpain.

While I do not dismiss this may be a factor, I am very frustrated at the lack of introspection by many #physicians where #medicaltrauma due to care that 1/
was dismissive, shaming, manipulative and lacked transparency does a great deal of harm leading to PTSD & I would postulate the worsening of #pain & or #disease. It’s as if the model, is backwards. Don’t get me wrong I absolutely believe #trauma can have long lasting impacts 2/
impacts that impact multiple areas. What I don’t understand is how many physicians don’t understand how care for children & youth w #rare or #complex #health issues or/and ones that include #pain can lead to #MH issues (not always be the cause). Why is it difficult for some 3/

anderweitige Gewalt schwer traumatisiert.

After years of my daughter receiving care at our local #hospital that is often based on #bias & is often subpar I have begun to reach out to different state agencies. The experiences that my daughter has had to experience over the last several years has been surreal 1/
I’ve attempted many times to engage with #patientservices w various staff in attempts to implement a plan which is based on her needs, recognizes the #medicaltrauma she has experienced & how it impacts her. I’ve attempted to explain how her diabetes works (to the extent I even 2
understand. Type 3 is brittle, it can shoot up or down for numerous reasons. I’ve tried to explain her complications based on her #AITTP but instead assumptions have been made and that what care has been based on. In reviewing her chart it’s truly horrifying their utter lack 3

Trigger warning for #LongCovid #medicaltrauma
A thread of 6 tweets. This is the first time I’ve spoken publicly about my #LongCovid Image
If COVID is the war, then #longhaulers are our veterans and we must take care of them!

(2/6)I was diagnosed with Long COVID in April of 2021 and due to my significant cognitive impairments and treatment resistant depression, I became unable to work.

I'm so dissapointed in the doc who has been my best PCP for years #NEISvoid #DisabilityTwitter #EhlersDanlosSyndrome I have cci and it got significantly worse the last 2 months. I've tried to deal with it myself, but its been a major issue for pain, mobility & neuro symptoms #eds
that nothing helps. we changed from a pain patch to an injection because it give me more relief, but my symptoms persist & cause serious limitations i didn't have before. my PCP told me I had to do PT to get scans. I said okay, because this has happened before. I need 6 weeks
to get scans, which is a lot. my 1st pt was terrible [and I posted about it earlier] and my next pt is somebody I've never been with, so idk if they know eds. the only PT who I know, like, and who knows eds is booked through December. I called insurance to ask about getting scans

Um absolutely adore this thread! I must read for #NEISvoid #CPP #RareDisease. My kids experienced much of what is mentioned in thread. 1st they have a rare disease, 2nd had a rare medical procedure to try to address symptoms, it caused complications. My kids now have T3 1/
the ‘care’ they receive has often been #traumatic as they don’t fit nicely into a box 📦. It’s because of their experiences (& my husbands) that I advocate. As young adults they still have to interact w the #healthcare industry but they are distrustful ( & rightly so). So many 2/
Physicians do not understand #medicaltrauma & their roles in it. I know it’s hard to be a #physician today, I know it’s hard to be in #healthcare but to dismiss, shame & blame a #patient is harmful not only psychologically but physically. 3/

In addition to having several chronic pain conditions my daughter has a heart condition & a seizure disorder.

She had been established with a PM for 4 yrs until he sold his practice.

After the practice sold she was discharged
2)because she requested to have an appointment directly after they returned from lunch so that she wouldn't have to sit 3-4 hrs waiting for her appointment.

There were several times that we would apply lidocaine to her entire body in preparation for a procedure &
3)by the time they took her back it had worn off & her pain level was then too high to proceed.

They scheduled her for a procedure in 2 weeks. A week later she received a letter in the mail notifying her that she had been discharged with a 30 day RX.

I’ll say it AGAIN for the people in the back... I DON’T WANT A “CURE” FOR #SICKLECELLDISEASE! What I DO want is for our pain to be TREATED NOT IGNORED. I DON’T want to worry about the ER docs labelling me as a drug seeker out of IGNORANCE/BIGOTRY. 1/?
When I come to the ER, I want to be BELIEVED when I say I’m having crisis pain. Followed by PROMPT AND EMERGENT administration of the dose of pain medication I NEED! Sickle Cell crises are an #ActualEMERGENCY and require immediate treatment! More time in pain = MORE COMPLICATIONS
The longer someone is in pain without relief, the more likely they’ll need an admission into the hospital! Also, pain scales are garbage! Personally I measure my pain by my ability to function. If I’m in the ER, I’m not functioning!

A critical conversation that we are NOT having,at the level I believe we need 2, is the trauma that occurs when #pain is undertreated or not treated. There are volumes and volumes of articles on how trauma impacts #pain but NOT how trauma is occurring right now to those 1/
who have pain and are not treated or abandoned. I saw it with my kids, the trauma they faced throughout their medical journey has caused a great deal of trauma. Both have health issues that will need to be addressed throughout their life. Due to #medicaltrauma (ie pain being 2
ignored/dismissed as well as other traumas) they are seen as ‘difficult’ patients, ‘resistant’ patients. Through my lens, their actions make sense. I saw first hand the harms. If physicians could see the depth of suffering they experienced it would make sense to them also 3/
