recently, twitter lists have helped me to level up my twitter curation skills. it took me a weirdly long time to
a) find twitter lists in the interface
b) learn/decide how to make effective use of them

this thread has some learnings + best practices.
my current m.o. is that follows are cheap, so I follow someone if I'm even slightly interested in them - but I try to be thoughtful about which lists I create and who/how I add to them
for me lists are only tenable for everyday usage because I use tweetdeck at least part of the time. tweetdeck lets you view multilpe streams/feeds based on different inputs (such as a list).
pro tweetdeck tips:
a) if you hit "expand" on the sidebar, you can drag panels to rearrange + reorder
b) hitting a number as a keyboard shortcut brings you to the relevant panel.
c) it's worth looking at the options in each kind of panel.
the other key is that i don't try to create the perfect system ahead of time or perfectly categorize every person. instead I update my lists just-in-time.
here are some lists I have (inspired in part by several articles i read):

the obvious: topical lists on strategy, productivity, ecology, politics, philosophy, meditation, etc.
homepage: a custom list of top accounts i want to follow. tens of people is a much more manageable stream than 100's or 1000's

people who attended my alma mater

people I met at specific events

students in online courses I've taken

regional lists (Bay Area and Vermont)
passion: a list of inspiring people who tweet passionately about their work

friends/family: especially people whose feeds I might otherwise miss but want to see

a list of people i'd like to get to know better / connect to at some point
allies: people who i have active relationships with. get situational awareness into their life + work, look for opportunities to promote them and/or collaborate

monastics: a list of people who are currently doing or have done monastic training in our tradition.
celebrities: there are actually a few celebrities / public figures who a) I like and b) have great Twitter feeds. rn my two favs are @ebruenig and @melissavcomedy. guilty pleasure?

people who interact w/ my twitter posts a lot - curious to stay in touch with + learn about them!
hope this thread helps - let me know if you have any good list ideas or have leveled up your curation skills in an entirely different way!
