Thread; You know as someone that #commutesbybike in Dublin I've gotten used to close passes, annoying parking in the bike lane, unusable bike lanes, left hooking, having to go out in traffic to get around buses. All of these things I can handle, I don't like it but I can handle.
Close passes and left hooking are examples of #dangerousdriving but being the Polyanna that I am I like to think that the majority of people don't do it on purpose. That they are bad drivers rather than deliberate miscreants. That if they knew the danger they wouldn't do it.
But what sends me in to a rage every time. Every time. Is the beeping. I absolutely cannot stand the beeping. Beeping is a deliberate act. I know when my hand goes to the horn that I'm going to make a loud noise.
A "get out of my way" noise comes when I blow my horn. A "you are delaying me on my important mission". A "You are not worthy to be in my way, get out of it". I get so annoyed I really want to make it known "DON'T DO THAT!"
I have a RIGHT to #cycle safely on the road. I have a RIGHT to take an assertive, safe position in the lane. I have a RIGHT to safe travel, to get home to my family after my days work is over. You do NOT have the right to BEEP ME!
Today I delayed a @dublinbusnews by about 3 seconds over a distance of 100m and the driver beeped at me. Gesticulating as he passed that I should be in the far left of a left turning lane and not in the going straight bus lane I was in (although I was going straight).
Mr DublinBusDriver. You were Wrong. I was right. And as well as being Wrong, you were RUDE. I can abide stupid and dangerous drivers. They shouldn't be on the road but they are and I like to think they don't mean to be stupid or dangerous. But you, were just rude. @dublincycling
