In the celebration of #WorkersDay2019, We are going to be learning how to convert our non smart TV to smart TV. For most home now have access to the Internet and they can decide to go smart with all their wide screen non smart TV.

A. Non Smart TV
B. Smart TV
What is a smart TV?
A smart TV is a traditional set with integrated Internet and interactive "Web 2.0". It uses your home network to provide streaming videos and services on your TV, and smart TVs use wired Ethernet and built in Wi-Fi to stay connected.
A non smart TV cannot do any of this, you can only use it with your popular audio in video in, HDMI
Majority of the non smart TV today use and HDMI port for connecting to the TV for best quality video and audio output, however they can be connected via a composite component port. In short our normal Television 😂
Before we proceed further, we need to know that smart TV is more expensive than the non smart . But with this tutorial, you will be able to to go smart from non smart without incurring too much cost.
To go smart, we have couple of way to make this happen and we are going to have them all listed here.
#1
You can use stream stick from Amazon, Amazon fire stick.

#2
You can use Google Chromecast

#3
You can use TV Box

#4
Use your Raspberry PI with Open source App
Option #1 to #3 are off-the-shelves approach, all you need is to get them and you're good to go, plug them to your TV HDMI. As simple as that.
We are going to be going through option #4 here. Using our Raspberry Pi, we can flash on it an open source application called Kodi, and with that we go smart.
Here is what we need in one picture.
Raspberry PI, HDMI cable, Power Cable, SD card Reader, Memory Card, Wireless Keyboard and Mouse, Raspberry Casing.
We need to make some download,
KODI image
+ Kodi V18.2 Leia for Pi

USB SD creator tool for Kodi
+ LibreElec.USB-SD.Creator.Win32.exe.

URL: kodi.tv/download

libreelec.wiki/libreelec_usb-…
After the download, you prepare the USB by flashing it with Kodi Image using the LibreELEC SD creator.
With this we need to couple the Raspberry Pi into the casing and plug in the SD card as I have it here. Don't mind me, Ajax was playing yesterday when making the video. 😁😁
Here is my TV before plugging in the Raspberry Pi into it with the HDMI cable.
Now we have this, Raspberry Pi running Kodi connected and powered. We have these. Your PI can be connected to the Internet using wifi, or cable. All of the setting can be done using your wireless 🖱 and keyboad.
You can go to Addon to add as many add on you like such as Youtube and other streaming app. When you play around with the setting they're very easy to understand.
Haven't setup the YouTube Addon and connecting to it your account, you can have endless list of videos to watch.
Option #4 is for those that can handle all of the technical involve with open soure. And it largely give you room to change to whatever you want over time.

You have control over everything, and most of the things involve can be reuse for other project within your home network.
