1/n Inspired by @leah_boustan ’s very nice shout out to her undergrad senior honors theses, I thought I might tweet (with pride) about the work of our graduating (3rd year) @azimpremjiuniv economics students as well. They leave on Sunday as graduates. . In no order:..

she used a sample of 800 firms from 2000-2018, asking if connected firms saw abnormal returns if‘their’ party won.
She constructed her own index using a python scraping script . Firms connected both to the Congress and BJP did substantially better than the average and stockprices were 30- 40% higher than the average for the two week period before and after ‘their’ party won.
@mohariradvait ‘s thesis consisted of two contributions. First, a long historical analysis of the different views of money, as held by Ricardo, Tooke, Wicksell, Keynes, Friedman, Hawtrey, Mehrling, Pettifor, Patnaik and others.
Second, an analysis of the evolution of state and central debt-GDP ratios in India using the evolution of debt dynamics. He looked at states and the centre and found that in the last two decades it was growth and inflation that drove debt-GDP rather than primary deficits.

@dontcarelobo looked at group inequality and conflict—she undertook a case study of religious conflict in Mangalore, and an empirical study of whether group based inequality was a contributor to riots. Her finding: no.
@dontcarelobo 4.#madhurikamtam spent a summer interviewing over 200 woman beedi workers organized in collectives in rural northern Telangana to assess why some collectives were more successful and others were not. She found two interesting results.
First, collective action was weaker when caste schisms arose in the collective. Second, strong middlemen undermined collective action.
#KasturiKandalam interviewed policymakers and industry workers and looked at policy documents in Hyderabad to understand how it became “Cyberabad” and the considerations for development as a result.
@snehavenue went to the field and studied two alternative economy collectives which were built on more collectivist and Gandhian principles. She found that while some forms of oppression were reduced, others remained entrenched
@ralphio12 looked at 3 different common property resources around Bangalore and did case studies on how and why some the CPR was successfully maintained or was encroached by more powerful groups.
@ralphio12 8.#Balasurya used historical policy documents to understand how India has thought about FDI over time. He also did an empirical analysis of some of its determinants.
@nerdfightrbabe studied the labor process in fast fashion companies in Bangalore and how garment labor markets have both elements of more and less security as a result.
#Aaromal D’Cruz studied the ways in which top EPL teams found ways to market themselves
#AnjanaMohan studied how science fiction films dealt with issues of Alienation and labor.
Great to see all of this work. Good luck all! Second year honor's students-- you are up next!
