Uber is set to go public within a week, and its new CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, has done everything he can to distance the company from its troubled past.

Enter: Travis Kalanick.

when writing this (with @nicksummers deft hand as a guide) i thought a lot about the authority Travis had — and has — as a founder. And what it means to try and erase that, especially on the day every entrepreneur looks forward to: The IPO.

I can see a case for either side here.

something left on the cutting room floor: Some insiders feel that Khosrowshahi has a particular way of referring to his predecessor.

Every time he says "culture" when referring to the past, it's a synonym for "Travis."

For dara, it seems, Kalanick is essentially Voldemort.

last thing to be clear: Kalanick (and Garrett camp and ryan graves) are all invited to the NYSE floor (and have been). Unclear if they will go especially after the events of the last week.

The big issue was ringing the bell from the podium. A no-go, per mgmt.
