Page 34 of ATIKU reads “ one of d subjects ATIKU took very seriously at d school was HAUSA Language” as Atiku can only speak FULFULDE (d major language in Northern Cameroon) so Hausa was his 2nd language then. Read more about FULFULDE . Good people of Cameroon
Page 35 of “ Atiku - the story of AA” reads “ a new constitution was introduced on Oct 1, 1954 by Gov Littleton which established 3 regions. For reasons best known to d British, Northern Cameroon a provisional part of Northern region “ hope u understand
Page 36 of ATIKU reads “ UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on March 13, 1959 asking UK in consultation with UN plebiscite Com , Djalal of Persia (Iran) to organise plebiscites in d Northern & Southern Cameroon to find out d wishes of people to join NORTHERN NIGERIA or not
Page 37: it will interest u that on Nov 7, 1959, only men were allowed to vote for d plebiscite as WOMEN were yet to be given right to vote & be voted for. 120,540 men voted. 70,401 voted against joining Northern Nigeria $ 42,797 voted for INTEGRATION with Northern Nigeria
Pls note that Northern Cameroon did not join in the Nigeria Independence celebration on October 1, 1960. UN promised to give them one more chance to decide to join Nigeria or Cameroon as the French wanted.
Note that d population of Northern Cameroon in 1959 was about 500,000 representing 54% of d entire population of Adamawa Emirate & 32% of Adamawa Pronvince. Hope u can decode this message
Atiku’s name in school then was “ATIKU KOJOLI” then sat & passed a competitive exam to Adamawa Provincial Secondary school Yola in 1960. Remember his family & relatives came from Jada & KOJOLI (Northern Cameroon) . So Atiku in Yola is like schooling in London as a Nigerian THEN.
As a student of Adamawa Provincial Secondary School, Yola, Northern Nigeria then, Atiku KOJOLI spent his holidays in Jada, kojoli & Ganye , d headquarters of Southern Division of Northern Cameroon as was known after d 2nd plebiscite in 1961
A 2nd plebiscite was fixed for Feb 1961 (note after independence) in which d people of Northern Cameroons were asked 2 simple questions. One: do u wish to achieve independence by joining d Republic of Cameroons? Two: do u wish to achieve independence by joining Nigeria ?
Northern Regional Govt was determined to woo Atiku’s people to Nigeria. North was worried about Southern Cameroon (SC) . If SC voted to join Nigeria,it means EASTERN REGION would be allocated more seats in parliament more than Northern region. Loss of political control Una see ba
The same North that always counted Eastern region betrayed them by secretly mobilizing d people of Southern Cameroon to vote to join Cameroon so as to RETAIN political power in An enlarged NIGERIA. “Note that too”
Give it to Ahmadu Bello, a strategist who made sure that Atiku kojoli’s voted against Cameroon with a lot of promises and new local govt independent of d then YOLA .
On Feb 11 &12 , 1961 , d people of Northern Cameroons went to d polls to decide their future AGAIN after d 1st plebiscite that had “issues” don’t forget Ahmadu Bello had lobbied British& UN to conduct 2nd plebiscite. Women were allowed to vote for d 1st time
Men voted Feb 11, 1961 while women voted Feb 12, 1961 ( segregation) . Those voting to join Nigeria places their ballot papers in Green boxes while votes for Cameroon were dropped in white boxes. Voter turn out was heavy. Vote buying happened b4 Election Day unlike now
146, 299 people voted to join Nigeria while 98,018 voted in favour of Cameroon. Cameroon complained about irregularities ( no server no card reader issue here). Cameroon went as far as World Court & lost . Don’t forget NPC Premier Bello was monitoring every move of Cameroon.
April 21,1961, UNGA ratified d result of plebiscite. June 1,1961, documents transferring sovereignty were formally presented to PM Tafawa Balewa at MUBI by British Administrator Percy Wyn-Harris ( not Port harcourt Harris own)
Southern Cameroon which had a population of 1.5m voted to join Cameroon in a plebiscite held on Feb 1961. Called Western Cameroon now. Eastern region leaders did not work hard to convince them to stay in Nigeria. By now, Eastern region would have had so many states and strong
Shocker :In Atiku’s Chamba (Ganye) Native Authority (note: Atiku is always moving& claiming a place) d predominantly Chamba inhabitants voted to go to CAMEROON in d plebiscite. A total of 25,177 voted in favour of Cameroon while 9,704 voted for NIGERIA. They love Cameroon a lot
So you can decide whether Atiku is a Nigerian or from Cameroon yourself. Another question should be “ his great father & his father were from where” his own story left a lot of gaps. Note : he learnt HAUSA LANGUAGE in school. This will guide u a lot. Case closed. Let me eat abeg
