I don't think enough people realize Trump has moved us into alignment with a really sinister group of countries. We're closer to Russia, North Korea, and Saudi Arabia than our traditional, democratic allies. 1/
It's taken for granted that we're always going to be on the "right side," or whatever, but what he's done so far has radically realigned the world order. Perception is everything, and he has eroded trust among our allies at an alarming rate. 2/
I talked with a representative from a NATO country at Trump's inauguration, and the concerns he expressed seemed to imply there was absolutely no trust among NATO countries that Trump would remain loyal, whether it was militarily or even the protection of information. 3/
That, along with Trump's stances on immigration, human rights abuses, and just general flirting with dictators has inspired plenty of discomfort. A president can do that, especially when they're not challenged by political opposition. 4/
The truth is, Trump is philosophically aligned with Putin and Kim Jong Un. They share a worldview in which rights are nuisances and a ruling elite should go unchallenged and enjoy unhindered power. It's a natural alliance and we're seeing it take root. 5/
Continually Trump takes Putin and Kim's side in public and in relations. He's all but completely alienated our allies. What do people think is going to happen? We're heading in the direction where this administration enters some unbelievably problematic alliances. 6/
This is part of the reason why Democrats have to wake up and take action. A message needs sent to the world that a president isn't above the law, but also that election tampering isn't going to be tolerated. Otherwise, we're in for a LOT of trouble. 7/
As it is now, there's no reason for any nation not to interfere in our elections. Already we're seeing Russia, North Korea, and Saudi Arabia employing bots and disinformation campaigns meant to help Trump. You think they'll stop? You think that won't win Trump's loyalty? 8/
If this continues, 2020 will make 2016 look like a free and fair election by contrast. We're a year and a half our and already it's a distorted nightmare with foreign interference and manipulation. These countries Trump is aligning himself with are going to turn it up. 9/
People are in denial about what Trump has done already, but also in denial about the fact that HE COULD WIN. If he wins and it's in part due to interference by these dictatorships, you're going to see a realignment worse than a fever dream could cook up. 10/
This is part of why the Dems playing a wait-and-see approach with eyes toward 2020 is so frustrating. Every day this goes unchallenged is a day our situation, and the world's situation, degrades exponentially. This is a crisis, pure and simple, and needs treated as such. 11/11
