A heart-warming story from Sukma, Chhattisgarh (Thread): Mukaram village lies along the tributary of Maley Vagu River. Some of the biggest Maoist ambushes and encounters with security forces have happened around it (1/n)
Mukaram is largely considered a village of Maoist sympathisers. It is believed that info to Maoists from here resulted in 2010 Tarmetla ambush (75 CRPF personnel dead). Recently, a young woman from here appeared at the gate of a @crpfindia camp (not telling location) (2/n)
The tiny bundle in her hands turned out to be her six-month old baby, badly malnourished, down with severe Malaria. Bursting into tears, the mother told CRPF commandant that she tried getting the baby treated from Vadde (witch doctor), but she knew he could not cure her (3/n)
Now she feared that if she ventures out, the Maoists will dub her as a police informer and bludgeon her to death in Jantana Sarkar (Kangaroo court), as they do many times. But for the love of the baby, the mother’s heart prevailed and she came out (4/n)
The CRPF camp has no paediatrician. But the doctor there began treating the baby immediately. In a week’s time they were able to turn her (5/n)
CRPF friends say it will take another two weeks before the baby is okay. Mother and daughter are being provided nutrient-rich diet (6/n)
The question now is: will she be safe once she is sent back to her village? The CRPF needs more support from the Centre to handle such cases (7/n) @HMOIndia @PMOIndia @narendramodi
