Translation: Guy who boycotted an election in may 2018 and didn't declare Maduro cheated until January 2019 has also been lying to the US about how much support he actually has for his attempted coup.

Also, another important detail people keep overlooking; this guy never once ran for president in the first place. Even during the year they didn't boycott.

I think he was hoping that US/CIA support would be enough to trick and subvert enough people to support him against maduro - I mean, it's what the US has done before in other countries. I guess he didn't count on A) him being really unpopular and B) the US being really dumb.
Ironically the opposition now has even ~less~ support than it did before this shitty coup attempt, and unpopular president Maduro shot up in popularity for his resistance against a lying western power & their CIA-backed stooge trying to instigate a coup.
