Is there a prominent ed tech company that doesn't have a high priced PR firm on retainer? Asking because every time I write about one in a blog post, I get an email from said PR firm.
What would the world look like if public schools could have a high powered PR firm on retainer to push back on all negative coverage? Might the narrative be a bit different?
To be fair, one bit in the post needs correcting because the info was wrong in the original source, so I'm happy to correct. I'm just interested in the mechanism. Pretty sure if someone botched a story about what went on in a public school, we wouldn't have a PR firm on the case.

I’ve had TT endless preach to me about the necessity of NTT faculty acting in solidarity when tenure is threatened, but I’ve rarely seen that spirit extended downward.
Wrote this 5 years ago and got about 10 emails how unfair and over the top it was, that TT faculty were deeply concerned about adjuncts and I should appreciate the work they do. Phooey. Show me the lie in the post. insidehighered.com/blogs/just-vis…

These "explainers" with exhaustive detail about what the GA abortion ban bill says strikes me as exactly what those passing the bill want. It legitimizes it as a point of debate. This doesn't seem like a good way to stop the assault on rights. washingtonpost.com/health/2019/05…
The only necessary explainer is that these dudes are waging a war on rights with maximum possible cruelty and they're doing it because they think they have an SC that's going to take down Roe. They're waging war.

Just received a very special invitation to the Heterodox Academy conference where I can hear people such as David Brooks and Steven Pinker speak, which is great, because I feel like I never hear from those guys anymore. All for the low cost of $250.
Imagine hearing Steven Pinker, a guy whose work is highly invested in his own rather cloistered orthodoxy, lecture about the value of heterodoxy. I can't imagine a worse representative of the putative ideals of the organization. On the other hand, Pinker is a prominent academic.
I mean, I read the mission statement of the Heterodox academy and think, "I feel like I'm generally down with that," and then I see their keynote speakers and wonder exactly where I'm getting the heterodoxy because David Brooks ain't it.

You should use a Twitter thread to announce new papers instead of a blog post.

Here’s why...
In my personal experience, papers that are summarized in threads get more reads than blog post equivalents. I’m talking like 10x more reads, at least. I think there are a few reasons for this...
As there’s less friction with reading a thread (you don’t need to leave Twitter to read it, unlike a blog), people more likely to read the thread about your paper.
