I’ve had TT endless preach to me about the necessity of NTT faculty acting in solidarity when tenure is threatened, but I’ve rarely seen that spirit extended downward.
Wrote this 5 years ago and got about 10 emails how unfair and over the top it was, that TT faculty were deeply concerned about adjuncts and I should appreciate the work they do. Phooey. Show me the lie in the post. insidehighered.com/blogs/just-vis…
"I 100% support better treatment for adjuncts!"

Great, convert all travel funds for TT faculty to salary for NTT faculty.

"How would I do my research?"
"I'm deeply concerned about the way adjuncts are treated."

Awesome. Make as many full-time positions as there are sections to support them.

"We can't afford that. Think of the health insurance costs."
"We want to give adjuncts more voice in departmental matters."

Nice. Let them vote on policies.

"But we can't be sure they'll be around after this year."

Half of them have been here for more than 10 years.

"But they don't have tenure."
