I don't get the GOP's political strategy behind what appears to be a coordinated, multi-state assault on reproductive choice (w/ GA and OH getting the most press). As many have pointed out, the idea here is to pass laws that go against Rove v. Wade which then end up at SCOTUS.
This poll from last summer suggested that there isn't even majority support for overturning Roe *within the GOP.* Doubling down on anti-choice radicalism at this moment (with a historically unpopular leader at the helm of your party) seems like political suicide.
Apart from a scenario in which they do not plan on there being free and fair elections in the near future, it's hard to see why *this* is the hardline strategy the GOP is going for. To me, this looks like textbook "overreach" by a party that is catering too much to their base.
I mean, the polling on abortion rights hasn't really move much in 40 years...if anything, support for abortion rights has grown. So it's not like the GOP is riding any sort of wave of public opinion.
