As a footnote: in 1982, the US sanctioned foreign companies (including British) who helped construct a Soviet pipeline through Poland. In a volcanic TV appearance, Thatcher condemned the sanctions, defended the pipeline and complained of being "deeply wounded by a friend".
After the US invaded Grenada, following a Marxist coup, Thatcher again took to the airwaves, condemning the invasion on the BBC World Service.
For different reasons, both right & left have bought into a myth abt the "special relationship" in the 80s, which erases Thatcher's disagreements with the US & her willingness to air them in public. Allies can disagree & can do so openly: a lesson some of her heirs have forgotten
