Don’t know NL well but this is what’s happened in ON, MB, SK, AB and BC (in BC they’re called Liberals, long story). Here in ON longtime Tories left the PCPO years ago. It kept the “progressive” but no one’s fooled. The social-Conservative agenda is easier to push ... 1/

3 There’s no national majority for the social-conservative agenda in Canada; hasn’t been for at least 100 years. Except for AB, QC (to early 1960s) and occasionally BC, there haven’t been provincial majorities either. Conservatives win provincial elxns when the oppn splits. 3/
4 Nationally, Conservatives have won commanding majorities, but these are hard to sustain. They were lost in 1962 and 1993 by the PCs and in 2015 by Stephen Harper’s Conservatives. The separation of powers is one reason it’s hard to draw voters into a big tent. It usually ... 4/

Nationally, and in some provinces, disaffected centre-mainstream voters seem to be leaning leftward rather than rightward. From what I do know of NL it wouldn’t surprise me if people there felt the same way. 5/5
