Dr Jones complains the other side won’t listen while simultaneously presenting a partisan populist caricature of the responses he receives. Rather calls into question the sincerity of his claim to want real dialogue.
Notice also once again Dr Jones’ weakness for populist tropes: members of the “true people” Brexit party are portrayed as good and honest, their political opponents as narrow minded and intolerant.
To reiterate what I said yesterday regarding this: such behaviour is fine coming from a populist politician or activist as it is both a reflection of their worldview and a tool to mobilise their supporters. It is problematic coming from an academic.
If Dr Jones wishes to be a Brexit party activist he should declare this affiliation openly and not present his “analysis” of the politics of Brexit as it is from a disinterested academic perspective.
