No Deal Brexit - which is the Brexit party’s only policy - has no democratic mandate and is the lest popular option with the electorate in a wide range of polling. It would imperil the Good Friday Agreement, which won an overwhelming democratic mandate.
It requires a somewhat blinkered viewpoint to frame such a party as having a “singular concern with democracy”. The usual populist dogma is required - “the people” have a single, simple preference. Any difficult or dissent reflects not real complexity but elite dissembling.
One expects such facile reasoning from Farage and other rad rt politicians as it is their stock in trade and it speaks to the worldview of their core electorate. It is depressing to see from academics who should no better and face no such electoral incentive
One can perfectly well say that voters backing the Brexit party are frustrated and have real grounds for frustration without having to pretend that their views are the only views of “the people” or that their frustrations are the only ones deserving of a political response.
I also think the claim that the only or even primary motivation of Brexit party support is a “singular concern with democracy” is simplistic and unlikely to survive contact with evidence. Support for any party is complex. BP will be no different in this regard
