Game of Thrones. Fucking buggering hell. That was utterly heartbreaking. And completely perfect.
I have now been quickly and reliably informed that everyone hates it. Can't understand that. Craziness. That was exquisitely judged tragedy.
Thrones is at its best when it takes away what you want and when it says something radical about the world. That's what it did here. The behaviour of characters (no spoilers) we saw tonight was seeded well in advance.
If this thing had offered us moral or narrative reliability, it'd have been a bit of a betrayal. Instead it turned the tables. That's been missing for the last couple of seasons. Got it back just before the end.
Also I watched half of that actually stood up in front of the telly, pacing back and forth, muttering 'oh my god'.
