Chairman Graham today unveiled the Secure and Protect Act of 2019 to strengthen border security.

“We have a perfect storm brewing at the border because of a series of broken and outdated laws related to asylum and children,” said Graham.

The Graham legislation closes the gaps in current law that have led to an escalating number of immigrants traveling to the border.

Highlights of Graham’s legislation include:
“Finally, it should go without saying but travel from Central America to the United States is a dangerous and treacherous journey, particularly for children,” concluded Graham.
“This legislation will help protect children by ensuring asylum claims are filed from their home area, not after a thousand mile journey.”

The big providers advertise how easy it is to deploy infrastructure in the cloud, but they don't seem to talk about how easy it is to screw it up and loose half the country's SSNs because of an extra * in a JSON policy. It doesn't help that the default settings are rarely secure.
We've got companies with 100s of engineers and combined decades of cloud security experience who are still getting it wrong. Not a day goes by without mass exfiltration of user data because of what amounts to really tiny mistakes.

GOP Senators laughing and checking phones while Senator Feinstein protests Graham breaking SJC and Senate rules to push through a vicious, partisan immigration bill designed to please Trump.
Senator Kennedy appears to be only one listening throughout, looking nonplussed.
As Feinstein is saying, this bill has no chance of becoming law. Graham is pushing it through so Trump will praise him.

Importantly, this will be Acting DHS Secretary @DHSMcAleenan's first appearance since Friday's tariffs announcement.

The bill would allow for vastly expanded detention of families and children, block asylum for anyone not going to a port of entry, and create other new limits on asylum.

Today’s hearing at 10:00 am will lay out a roadmap to fix the disaster at our southern border.

The number of people seeking entry into the US from Central America has doubled since last year, creating both a humanitarian and national security crisis.

My legislation, the Secure and Protect Act, would fix loopholes in our asylum law, requiring Central American immigrants to apply for asylum within their country or Mexico, not the United States, and allow more time to process claims involving minor children.
The President has taken strong action working with Mexico, but we also need to pass a more permanent, lasting fix.

I hope Democrats and Republicans will listen to the Acting Secretary’s warnings and work together to end this disaster at our southern border.
