Worth noting that the “get them to vote on a referendum and then choose options” strategy couldn’t work. It would be open to MPs to put down an “only with a referendum” amendment to the Withdrawal Agreement Bill at a later stage.
So not only democratically dubious (sensible for MPs to decide on a referendum once they know what the live options are) but also useless strategy even on its own terms.
Plus ça change.
And there’s also the House of Lords, which hasn’t so far felt restrained in making amendments. Especially in response to “clever” strategy designed to try to stop MPs voting on things.
