As we held signs and stared at guards “just doing their job,” Allesandra recounted her experience living in a country that deteriorated and slipped slowly, at first, and then with the headwind of people’s silence, at breakneck ferocity into a ruthless dictatorship. 2/11
We noticed more people—those you will never see in uniforms by virtue of their race and position in the taxpayer -sponsored privately owned and extremely profitable corporate entities needed to “handle” 3000 imprisoned children—being driven around staring and pointing at us. 3/11
In a short period of time, 2 men marched over 2 R camp. 1 man w/street clothes & no identification (we’ll just call him TM (toxic masculinity) continuously refused 2 identify himself & a younger man who looked extremely uncomfortable w/this whole scene approached Allesandra.4/11
The second man was in full DHS uniform. TM walked aggressively 2 R small group of 4 women-3 of us now recording him frantically & one of us expertly emptying her pockets of phone & everything possible (yea Alessandra!). 5/11
This was not a “Terry Stop,” a made-up cop thing when U don’t have probable cause 2 arrest a vulnerable person, so U try 2 stop, intimidate & demand information U have no right 2 demand. Nope, not even reasonable suspicion. Was it an arrest? 6/11
Well, if so, shouldn’t they have known her name? Had an arrest warrant? Come up w/some charge? Nope. So, they would let her go back 2 drawing hearts, right? Nope. For this non-arrest, this non-detention, TM ordered DHS cop 2 handcuff Allesandra & they took her away 2 a car...7/11

No one can know how they’d react in this situation. Allesandra now knows-she’s a fucking BADASS WARRIOR. She may have been shaking but she kept her calm & endlessly told TM that she refused 2 talk without her attorney...8/11

... & NO, she did not consent 2 a search of her car. This, even as she was handcuffed in the back of the DHS car, imagining herself in federal prison. It was apparently necessary for TM 2 get some help because a 100-lb woman in tank top, shorts &, reluctantly, sandals was...9/11
...just too much for him. 6 Miami-Dade cop cars sped into the lot where TM was hiding this very aggressive criminal-after all, she told the DHS cop, who had been acting human, that if he took her handcuffs off, she’d give him a...wait for it, HUG! 10/11
About an hour after the illegal arrest & detention, (also known as Thursday for TM), they let her go. Moral of the story: EVIL has never given up power; we will have 2 take it from them through intelligence, love & persistence. The children deserve no less.11/11
