Important point. Democrats consistently practice the politics of caution, seeking the path of least resistance, when the last two presidential elections where they won both the popular vote and the EC were won by the high risk black candidate who ignited the base & new voters.
The history of presidential elections is that passion tends to win them, not caution. Dole, Romney, Dukakis, Gore, Mondale, Kerry... all were safe, inoffensive choices meant to soothe the electorate with a promised return to "normalcy." HRC touted Trump's rank abnormality.
Maybe the Dems are right that the utter Trump exhaustion people feel will cause them to choose the "cautious normal" over another turn at "big change" (or FTM, the national convulsion of impeachment). They absolutely could be right. But it seems like quite a roll of the dice.
