1/5 Now that a bit of time has passed and thee conversation ignited by Betsy DeVos' special olympic cuts has died down, can we talk about how the IDEA Act has never once been fully funded?
2/5 That's the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Passed in the 1970s, Congress was supposed to cover 40% of its costs. But never once in the five decades following, have they met that obligation. ncld.org/archives/actio…
3/5 The Trump Administration has said that the 6 million students served by the IDEA Act are better served by the whims of philanthropy. Which is why, as of the last two decades local governments have become increasingly defunded to the point of being unable to offer services.
4/5 This Administration has a special hatred for people with disabilities. Proposing cuts to the following services.

😱 Helen Keller National Center for the Blind
😱 Gallaudet University serving students with disabilities
😱 American Printing House for the Blind
5/5 What's striking about all of this, beyond the general disgust every human should have when they think about it, is that people with disabilities pay taxes just like everyone else. They have a constitutional right to an education. But our government has never given a shit.
