/7 Heads up! @NavigatorSurvey just released their May 2019 report based on a comprehensive poll including 1,008 respondents and 115 in-depth interviews. There's some fascinating stuff in here. Let's break down the findings. Topline: Dems win when we center working families.
/7 First and foremost, we need to shift away from a conversation about whether or not the economy is doing well and towards WHO it's doing well FOR. 57% of people agree that the economy is doing well, but only for the richest few and at the expense of everyone else.
/7 When asked which party they trust to improve the economy, most people say Republicans. When asked who they trust to help workers, create an economy the benefits everyone, or improve wages. Resoundingly, it's Democrats.
/7 No one gives a shit if Republicans or Democrats use the word "Socialist." They want to know how you're going to help them.
/7 People vastly prefer capitalism with rules, regulations and limits to one without. Duh. But more importantly, they are a more concerned with how corporate interests have been placed above the public than whether or not businesses are burdened.
/7 People are much more concerned with politicians carving out benefits for special interests than with over-regulation. The most convincing examples are higher drug prices in our health system, and low corporate taxes.
/7 Bottom line: we need to envision an economy that works for everyone. We need to articulate that the true job creators and value makers in our economy, are the middle class. Raising wages, better protections for workers, higher taxes on the ultra-rich. When we do that, we win.
