Fox guest on the rise of anti-Semitism since the election of Trump: "'Jews will not replace us' was the chant in Charlottesville" in August 2017, and just the other day the president essentially said they were fair"

Fox then suddenly cut to commercial.
ht to Glenn Kubish for flagging this first.

Two things noticeable here, beyond the obvious:

1) Fox had JUST come back from commercial 2 minutes earlier. That's the entire bit above.

2) This is a Fox "straight news" program -- the thing that Fox brags about to advertisers.

I want to look more closely at how Fox "straight news" uses misinformation to downplay right-wing terrorism and violence.

This aired last night. The anchor on the left is Martha MacCallum, who Fox touted as a potential Democratic debate anchor.
MacCallum showed this chart, saying that “it looks like there’s no single group that is sort of dominating this issue and also that the numbers are relatively low”
MacCallum is ripping this data out of context in a couple ways. For one, WaPo reporting also tracked terrorist incidents overall. And those *do* show a marked increase in right-wing terrorism. Look at the left-column here.

Before we all jump all over Trump for this ignorant tweet, you have to remember — he is one of the very dumbest people in America.
I’m kind of not kidding with this. He’s extraordinarily dumb. He just also happens to be the President. (It’s happened before!) So when he says something dumb I don’t necessarily think we should all freak out. We should first remember, “Oh right — he’s improbably stupid.”
That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t continue to comment on his spectacular ignorance. Of course we should. I’m just saying we shouldn’t lose our minds and freak out — the stupidity should be expected. Is all I’m saying.

Yesterday, with an admitted impulse to provocation in my heart, I posed the question "could anyone think of a worse person to serve as a public official in US history than Donald Trump." The response was overwhelming.
First, I would like to thank all those bots and trolls and red Xs and Trumpinis and Alt Right nuts out there for their many nearly identical answers. It makes it so much easier when it comes to blocking and muting people to have a big chunk of the worst offenders line up at once.
Next, I would like to say how illuminating the whole thing was. Of course, I don't mean all those folks (& bots) who reflexively responded that the Clintons were murderers or terrorists or space aliens or that Obama was a coke head & a member of Al Qaeda. You're all just idiots.

One of the reasons charlatans like Jordan Peterson or Sam Harris are so successful, aside from the fact that their ideas reinforce the status quo, is because academia, as a whole, seriously undervalues vulgarization and popular education.
These guys can spout absolute nonsense about philosophy, history, sociology, etc. and no one challenges them because the people who actually work within these disciplines aren’t encouraged to spread that knowledge around.
Most academics don’t spend their time building meaningful relationships with communities outside the university, or learning to write in ways that are accessible to people without a degree, because that’s not what “counts” when it comes to getting a job or tenure.
