"Model Code of Conduct" in an election should concern itself solely with the the use of State power to influence elections.
Rather the MCC and EC is a free-speech nanny, where all manner of utterances of politicians need to be approved. Need to move away from this nanny state.

Even more absurd, it goes beyond utterances of politicians to even ban movies and books from releasing. EC should be a guarantor of free speech, not its impediment.
The opposition cribbing about the EC is its wanting to circumscribe BJP's speech within its own fantasies of political correctness. But the point of elections is to let parties put forth highly divergent views for the electorate to choose from. A nanny EC would pre-empt it.
Let the people and analysts judge this. The EC should concern itself with the conduct of the elections, not the content of the parties speeches or manifestos.
