It's almost like these are actually really quite important democratic positions where you can scrutinise and take apart continent-wide legislation and that it is foolish to treat them as a domestic shitshow.
One of the failures of proper euroscepticism over the last few years - as opposed to the kind of wailing nationalism Farage represents - is to get MEPs who can hold the EU to account.
That's important for two reasons. Firstly because any continent-wide political project like this needs cautious people to keep raising problems. And second because, as a regulatory superpower, the decisions it makes aren't necessarily kept just to Europe's borders.
But we gave up on all that. The more eurosceptic an MEP was, the less likely they were to scrutinise EU legislation. That, more than anything, tells you how badly it degenerated as a political project.
I mean, that, and the way it catastrophically fucked up the country.
