More proof that I’m #genderfree - none of these “11 Cisgender Privileges You Didn't Know You Had” apply to me. THREAD. pride.com/lgbt/2016/3/21…
“1 - Bathroom Safety”. No. As a woman I’m safe in single sex loos, and those at my workplace and the changing room at my old gym are all now “all genders”. (I’ve complained that this is exclusionary as I don’t have a gender - watch this space.) #genderfree
“2. Cis ppl don’t have to choose between feeling invisible or being othered.” As a petite woman, the wrong side of 40, often with children in tow, I am unfortunately also invisible. #genderfree
“3. Your boundaries are by and large respected.” Hahahahahahahahahahahhahahhahahahaha
😫
#genderfree
“4. Your name isn’t questioned.” Never.
Not when I’m erroneously called “Mrs MyHusbandsSurname. Nor when I’m quizzed on why I “bother with” Ms. Oh sorry, I didn’t mean never. I meant ALWAYS. #genderfree
“5 - safe in sex-segregated spaces”. I don’t want to go into details, but I was assaulted in a female-only space by a predatory male. Thankfully another woman saw him enter, followed & helped me. (I fear for my daughters in same situation, now inclusion has replaced safety.)
“6. Your ID won’t cause you trouble.” I can’t even get “genderfree woman” on my passport. It’s bigotry, I tell you. Bigotry!
“7. You get to see yourself represented everywhere in the media.” Women are underrepresented throughout the media, compared to men. Except in porn. #genderfree
“8. You don’t have to contemplate whether to tell new friends about your gender identity”. Given that people on Twitter have insulted and threatened me for coming out as #genderfree, I definitely do have to second guess who I can tell in real life unfortunately.
“9. Murder, harrassment & physical harm.”
😶

“10. Cis ppl don’t have to worry when dating that your sex assigned (sic) at birth may be cause for assault.”

“11. It’s easier for you to financially support yourself.” Aye. Like when I was let go for getting pregnant. When my child’s medical needs meant I could only work part time. When I’m inevitably expected to care for elderly parents. #genderfree
To conclude...
Those accusing women of “cisgender privilege” can fuck right off. #genderfree
