This from my colleague, who decided to share an encouraging story with me after I got off a particular call.
Some women call us and want to schedule an abortion, get a referral for an abortion, or have already scheduled an abortion and just

want more info before going into their appointment. (which is a little weird-why don't they feel comfortable calling the place they are scheduled for the procedure at to ask for more info?)
So a woman calls her and tells her she is scheduled for an abortion is two days.

My colleague chats with her, asks a few questions, mentions our centers. Then the lady lets her know that she has actually already been to one of our center. In fact, she went there after scheduling her abortion to get a free ultrasound. She said the women at the center were

kind, helpful, supportive, and afterwards answered every question she had about the abortion procedure she was scheduled for and concerns she had. She said the women there made her feel cared for and like they truly wanted her to make an informed decision. And guess what?

That's why she was calling us back. She was now doubting that she actually wanted an abortion. So she agree to call back the next morning, when the center was open again, to talk to a counselor again before her abortion appointment.
Sometimes just showing people you truly

care about them is enough to make them realize that this option they don't really want to take may not be the option they HAVE to take, even if it felt like that initially. A little support and compassion may literally be all they need

These calls are more common in the late night and early morning hours.
A young woman near my age called, sobbing. Her abortion was a trauma no one understands or is willing to listen to her about.
She had an abortion a year ago.

She had been with the father for 5 years at that point. She said he thought he was supporting her but all actually offered to do was to call the abortion clinic for her. 🙄

He wanted kids. She still wants kids. He left her 1 month after she got the abortion.

Abortion regret edition, 1

Do you know how many women contact me expressing #abortion regret?
A lot.
These women come to me usually at the end of their rope, completely desperate. They feel they cannot tell their family or friends or SO about

their feelings. In many cases, it was one or more of these people who encouraged them or even pressured them to have the abortion in the first place, or is encouraging them for doing the right thing afterwards. Sometimes they have told no one about the pregnancy or abortion.

In all these situations, it boils down to them keeping all the feelings of regret, guilt, shame, doubt, sadness, fear, anxiety, etc. inside because they are afraid of telling someone close them and getting judged and being made to feel worse, or being dismissed and not helped.

Three weeks ago, Ms. Yoffe sent me an email informing me of the story and seeking comment. When writing an actual investigative piece, most reporters send a list of detailed questions asking their source to rebut accusations and confirm information. Ms. Yoffe didn’t do that. 2/x
I thought that was a red flag. I was also familiar with Ms. Yoffe’s previous work, including a 2013 piece in which she argued that sexual assaults on drunk women were the woman’s fault. I declined to comment and sent Ms. Yoffe a quote I gave to another outlet last year. 3/x

@FacesAuschwitz 1. A little over a year ago, I had the idea to restore some "registration" photos of Auschwitz victims. The preserved photos, 31,969 of men and 6,947 of women, constitute only a fraction of a vast Nazi photo archive destroyed during the camp evacuation in January 1945.
@FacesAuschwitz 2. This is the first photo I colorized. When I saw people calling the girl "Czeslawa Kwoka" (her name), not "a prisoner of Auschwitz" I understood that these people need to be known by their names, not by the numbers tattooed on their arms.

This then became FOA's core.

When I was raped a few years ago, I was terrified I would get pregnant by the brutal monster who left me so injured and nearly killed me. I knew I couldn't have an abortion for many reasons, including a dead child.

BUT THE OPTION EXISTED.

It won't for the women of Ohio.

The #OhioHeartbeatBill just passed by the nearly 80% male Ohio legislature doesn't offer choices.
It tells women they are murderers.
No one is choosing #abortion without thinking.
And it doesn't matter HOW women get pregnant--it's if they can BE pregnant.

Sometimes you can't BE pregnant at the time you ARE pregnant.
This is something no man can understand and it's why we need women in political office for representation.
It's also why we need #abortion to be legal, safe and accessible.

Because women's lives are at stake.

Last night I promised a thread about #abortion before Roe v Wade legalized it nationally. Until the mid-1800s, common law allowed abortion until "quickening", when fetal movement can be felt. Toxic abortion remedies & doctors competing w midwives led to… 1/
