A quick thread on the spectacular victory of @narendramodi

1. Algorithms don't work in India. Think of the voter in slow motion. Between house and polling booth (s)he decides whom to slap and slap hard. It is a big weapon, the only weapon they will ever possess.
2. Many think that Balakot helped Modi immensely. It has. But somehow, right after Pulwama, a message got conveyed that he is the only man who could fight India's enemies. It created a favourable sentiment for him. Balakot only deepened that sentiment.
3. There in lies a lesson for the opposition, especially for the Congress. Why did a majority of people think that it could not fight India's enemies? In fact, many think that it is in cahoots with anti-national forces. @RahulGandhi must introspect over this.
4. One big reason, in my view, is Rahul Gandhi cosying up to the players of "Tukde-Tukde" episode in JNU. Many Left-liberals completely whitewash that episode, like Marichjhapi. Just because a video was doctored doesn't mean it didn't happen at all
5. Many now lament that a consolidation of Hindu vote has happened ("Hindu mind has been hacked"). But they don't see the problem when other communities are openly asked to consolidate against BJP or Modi.
6. Example: I travelled to Bihat (Begusarai) with CPI's senior leader Shatrughan Prasad. In a meeting at the party office many mistook me for CPI cadre. In the meeting it was being openly discussed that the Jamaat-e-Islami should be asked to convince Muslims to vote for Kanhaiya
7. Many in the majority community have woken up to this fact and are now voting for Modi with their hands and feet. So if the consolidation has happened it has happened because somehow other consolidation is considered kosher.
8. Also: many have drawn attention towards this, but this needs to be said again. This government has directly touched the lives of millions of people: toilets, houses, gas cylinders. The delivery and other processes may be flawed. But ek gas cylinder ki keemat tum kya jaano.
9. The hypocrisy of self-styled Orwells also got exposed in these elections. Just because you want to see one man defeated, you are willing to collaborate with just anybody: Gadkari, Yashwant Sinha, Advani, even Imran Khan.
10. In 2017, I foresaw May 23 in this piece. I lost friends. But it is their problem if they refused to see it. From yesterday's evidence, there is no chance that they will even try and understand what happened openthemagazine.com/article/cover-…
11. Lastly, if I were Modi, I would create a "Gyarah Moorti" as an ode to a group of liberals who ensured his victory. To draw from Arun Shourie's remarks, some may not be even hearing "plateon ki aawaaz" now, but for many who voted for Modi, the feast has arrived.
