First up: @pmdfoster - prepare for a death-match between no-deal and revocation of Art. 50
@pmdfoster Sharing that assumption and building on it @piris_jc : as PM will face the same split Parliament, prepare for general election, referendum or extension fight.
@pmdfoster @piris_jc But then @ojessen is right to remind us: no-deal is the default and the next PM will likely be a No-dealer. This changes the dynamics: the PM can run down the clock. parliament would have to take positive action rather than just blocking. Is there a majority for that?
@pmdfoster @piris_jc @ojessen So despair? Let’s deploy the @anandMenon1 He reminds us that substance will come after spin. Does anyone else get the feeling he has a certain PM in mind who seems perfectly capable of this?

From a mere international negotiation perspective, this proposal both rightly captures one of the problems of the past WA negotiations - and fails to really offer a remedy. Let me explain (thread)
1) Let’s start with the good: the UK government negotiated a deal. But it could not deliver a parliamentary majority. Such a majority is needed because of the “meaningful vote” requirement in UK law. So Hunt correctly identifies the problem.
I would go further: Parliament had no voice in the negotiations, was not kept sufficiently informed about the negotiation process. And the rhetoric was consistently putting up hurdles that nobody could or would jump over.

It seems that without sleep even @anandMenon1 is not quite his optimistic self. I actually disagree with him in some regards. Don‘t worry - not because I am an optimist (thread)
@anandMenon1 My first concern is the interpretation of the success of the Brexit party. It won the election, but I am not sure about a standing start. It is no surprise that its rise coincides with UKIP‘s fall - after all the only recognisable UKIP face is now the Brexit party‘s face.
Be that as it may - I share the view that this election confirmed a fundamental split - and don‘t see how Parliament can get us through it. And here I regard no deal as far more likely than @anandMenon1

@BBCNews From the explainer we learn that nationalism is - thank God - a problem elsewhere, but not in the UK.

New #thread picking up on May 13 #NXIVM trial testimony beginning after the mid-morning break. Planning to work through at least the rest of this transcript today.
This starts with Vicente saying that he has a question. The prosecution calls a sidebar to tell the judge they do not know what the question is but also they do not object to the judge having a conversation with Vicente on or off the record.
Vicente joins the side bar. Says his question is related to the last set of questions. Says there was something he omitted and remembers when he left that he thought was important. Says he wasn’t sure of procedure.

First up we have the AG's opinion in Wightman, recommending unilateral revocation of Art.50 is appropriate.

It's at the top end of campaigners' expectations, but it's only an opinion, so until the ECJ actually rules, this doesn't change anything clearly
