Something very interesting going on in Denmark. Social Democrats doing v well, bodes well for them in imminent general election. Terrible result for far right Danish People’s Party, lost half their vote.
But SDs have moved far to the right on immigration. Is the lesson for social democrats that they must ape the right on integration to stop the haemorrhaging of working class voters? #EP2109
Fascinating results coming from Ireland.

Exit poll shows a remarkable green surge. Up from 1.2% to *23%*

Sinn Fein could be about to lose all their seats in the Republic. Could be left with a single seat- in Northern Ireland. Oh the irony.
As Britain's longstanding party duopoly is disrupted by the Brexit Party, Ireland's is being broken by the Greens. Tells you a lot about where the two countries are, right now and how culturally they've diverged.
Greens are having an absolutely stellar night across Europe. Unexpectedly picking up a seat in Portugal.
Sweden exception to the green surge, they’re actually going backwards in Sweden. Seems likely Swedish Social Democrats absorbing some of that vote. Meanwhile far right making gains but not overtaking the Conservatives. In sum, the centre holding in Scandinavia. #EP2019
By defeault this has become European results thread and musings from me. Will start separate one for British results when we start to get them in!
Ironic that the greens should perform badly in Sweden, the home of Greta Thunberg as they surge elsewhere in Europe. Looks like Liberal party being punished for coalition with social democrats.
Overall take of European results so far: the parliament will be (as expected) more fragmented with liberal group larger (expected) and green group larger (not so expected).
Wowser. Greens have taken over a third of the votes of German 18-34s. #EP2019
Finland first to finish counting. Green surge there too, they’ve come second. #EP2019
Greens could be bigger than Salvini’s group.

Looks v likely that for the first time the social democrats and EPP won’t have a majority. Will be reliant on greens and liberals s
Projected European political map by largest political grouping. Headline: European politics is complicated and most easy continental narratives probably unwise.
