I see there are lots of people interested in running marketing campaigns online but are not fully sure what to do and how to go about it. In a way, its good. You don't have to wait for the stars to align before you start.

In this thread, I take a look at how to run successful campaigns online and we will be looking at the Social Media giant - Facebook. Reason? They are the biggest and your customers are surely there, no matter what you are selling.
I will be talking from experience and lessons garnered from previous adverts I have run for former clients.
The first thing to note is that Facebook adverts is just a way of getting eyeballs (traffic) to your content or product and there are many awesome traffic models that work very well.
Subsequently, I will be looking at the others but today, I will look at the mindset you must have while running ads.
1. Facebook Ads is just a Tool. Just running an advert on Facebook does you no good. You may get sales but you'll keep on dashing money to Facebook if that's your only strategy.
Build a funnel (sales system) that works for you. In a funnel, Facebook ads is just one part. An example of a funnel could be Facebook Ad - WhatsApp Group - Content - Lookalike Ads (of the people in the group) - Sales.
This is a VERY basic ad format.

2. Begin with the End in Mind. How would this ad affect my brand?

Can I turn it off and on tomorrow?

Can I teach this?

Will algorithm affect this system?

If yes, what changes can I make?

Is this even ethical?
3. Help People Get What They Want. The greatest ads give you reasons to buy. They help you before they sell to you. Your ad copy must give something. Feeling, knowledge, Leverage, Trust etc.
For example, after this thread, a lot of you would want to get in contact with me to help run ads or ask questions. Why? I gave you something.

GIVE SOMETHING.
4. TEST. TEST. TEST. I was running a traffic ad for a client. We are still testing a lot of things

There's no funnel, just a pixel on the site to gather data. Well, I'm doing the ad to learn how best to convert without those kinds of stuff and we have spent considerable money
In that ad, I was getting traffic at 12 naira initially and I kept on testing and testing till I brought it down to 6 naira with a higher relevance score.

Now, I even get traffic at 3naira.

I've found out that the best ads are gotten when you actually spend money to test.
5. Ads Are Investments. Did you run an ad and fail? Don't say it does not work. Take it as tuition fee. You can see it as an investment in your knowledge or as an investment in your business.
That's why you need to be very strategic about your ads so that even if they don't get sales, you can get leads. So don't be shy to spend.

Ok, one more tip before you gas out.
6. It's not a Lottery. You can't expect to hit $5000 with a 10k budget. It's not a hit and run business. It's a strategy. It builds up little by little. (That's why I'm not yet driving a Benz).
Anyway, always run ads for the long term not just for today.

Another thing you should note is that B2B ads should be done differently from B2C ads.
