Somebody is going to Dollar Shave Club term life insurance.
The underlying product is, basically, almost perfect. The distribution for it is terrible.

The winner won't be the company with the best underwriting or widest range of insurable health histories, it will be the one that has people play their commercials to their friends.
Substantially every state has a regulatory regime where we pretend that insurance is complicated and can only be understood by the guild of commissioned sales agents, and the guild pretends it gives good advice.

Always tough to guess underwriting policies from outside the building but I think that increasingly good, integrated IT systems and faster decision loops is causing some banks to try to get cozier with some customers than previously.
One of the reasons the FICO/credit report system works is that banks want to know what your total exposure is and, historically, they wanted to avoid having it concentrated on them.

This limits damage from a strategic default in event of a "bust out" situation.
I just opened 3rd card with a particular US megabank which is very aggressively trying to grow credit portfolio, and they were happy to increase their aggregate exposure to me to $SILLY, where they were concerned about that a few years ago.

If you are dependent on a platform company, you a) want a named account rep at that platform company and b) want the email addresses of people who are not your named account rep.

Substantially every platform can do things a lot faster than their formal process can.
Historically one of the value adds of e.g. VCs or being part of a large portfolio like e.g. YC is that someone knows and has social permission to contact someone with decisionmaking authority, but given how the internal Internet works at these companies, anyone on inside ~works.
"Wait why do you want a named account rep AND informal escalations?"

Because in some cases named account reps might not be able to escalate as quickly as informal escalators.

"Then why have them?"

Because you want a flag on your account ~exempting you from decision-by-cronjob.

It is no surprise Twitter targets accounts for “wrong think” or as we on the #Right like to call it “free-think” this is because of two events which are now totally and utterly inextricably linked, #Brexit and #Trump and the Establishment have been rocked to the core. 2/15

Earlier, the subject of correcting child #language came up. That's a perfect segue to patterns of #acquisition for kids & adults

Both groups of learners will tend to go thru predictable patterns of errors and stages, regardless of language. Let's discuss some examples
U-shaped behavior: this is when someone gets super good at something, gets worse for awhile, then improves again

#languageteachers see this a lot and it's frustrating when you think, wait, "Student X just used the past tense perfectly all quarter! What are they doing now?!"
Overapplication: Maybe your kid or student learned how to form plurals! Except now, everything is marked (or double marked) for plural and you may hear things like gooses, dogses, rices, etc

Myth #5 (last of today): Language does NOT alter your cognition/inherent world view.

Of course, #language effects your life the same way your #culture, home town, or environment does. But what it doesn't do is give you non-linear time powers like in #TheArrival.

Right, so tomorrow is International Mother Language Day, and partially because I wont be at @LonGaeilge to waffle on about stuff in Irish, I'll waffle a bit about #IMLD here in English
I've no idea where this waffle will go, I'm just doing to lash into it without any direction in mind. #IMLD started in Bangladesh. Bangla is a language that is of central importance to #IMLD and to me personally.
If it wasn't for #Bangla, I know for certain that my #Gaeilge would not be what it is. It was when I started to learn Bangla that I also started going back to learning Irish.
