DHS OIG randomly inspected El Paso Del Norte processing center, Facility designed for a maximum capacity of 125. It had 900 plus detainees piled on top of each other under dangerous condition.

If trump is declaring this to be a NATIONAL EMERGENCY, please declare it a war zone, at least the Geneva convention will cover these people

🚨 NEW: DHS Office of Inspector General's report on "dangerous overcrowding" at the El Paso Del Norte Processing Center is now out.

900 people held in a facility designed for 125!

In one case, "a cell with a maximum capacity of 35 held 155 detainees."

DHS OIG visited five different CBP facilities in the El Paso area over the week of May 6, 2019. What they found was massively overcrowded cells with asylum seekers packed in like sardines.

In one case, the Border Patrol had put 76 women into a cell designed for just twelve.
One cell was designed for just 8 people. But the Inspector General found 41 women forced into it.

According to the OIG, "overcrowding and prolonged detention represent an immediate risk to the health and safety not just of the detainees, but also DHS agents and officers."

What's interesting about El Paso, TX (El Paso del Norte) in Texas history is that it wasn't part of Texas.

Texas was born from the MX state of "Coahuila y Tejas", while El Paso was in the state of Chihuahua. No paseños were involved in the Texas Revolution...
... which took place hundreds of miles away in a different state entirely. The new nation, Republic of Texas, made no claims on El Paso.

The city got thrown in at the 1845 annexation of Texas as a US state, which was a big surprise to the actual Texans!
All of these contested territorial claims by the US (claiming half the MX state of Chihuahua) led to disputes that gave rise to the Mexican-American War.

The US ultimately invaded Mexico, occupied their capital, and forced the government to sign a surrender at gunpoint.

I mean, he’s going to stand there demonizing Juarez, but real talk: The only reason El Paso exists is because of Juarez. The name for the El Paso/Juarez area is El Paso del Norte, translated as “the pass to the north”, because the Rio Grande creates a break in the Rockies.
And so it’s a natural spot for a border crossing: Thus the twin cities, El Paso and Juarez. But Juarez is the far bigger one, twice as big. The two are intertwined, and this wall garbage is an insult to this long history.
