A month in Singapore already. My two bits. 1) This city operates on black and white. Doesn’t understand grey. Also they don’t want to. 2) They love processes. 2) they don’t like people who don’t. Read Indians. 3) Indians think jugaar works everywhere. It doesn’t. 1/n
4) using Please, thank you is a good thing always. It’s should be done anyway. 5) if you are vegetarian, it means mushrooms and tofu. If you are allergic to mushrooms, god help you! 6) Mock meat is a BIG deal. I have no idea why! 2/n #Singaporediary
7) Don’t trust people when they say it’s only 5mins away. It never is. Things are close but remember you are new and still figuring things. Account for time. Reach early and wait. 8) Don’t be late. No one likes it. Including Indians. Meetings starts on time. 3/n #Singaporediary
9) Mostly noone offers you anything. The reception, waiting areas are well stocked with beverages & things to eat. Self help. Noone minds. 10) Each place has a pass. You need to keep changing it too on different floors. It’s a pain! But you get use to it. 4/n #Singaporediary
11) You need to give an ID card at any official building you visiting at the reception . I use my adhaar card liberally. Most people use their EP. 12) People drink. 1-2 and it’s a wrap up. Most Friday evening drinks with work colleagues are a thing here 5/n #Singaporediary
13) While working no one has time to chit chat. That’s reserved for lunch or coffee breaks. Focus on work is high and thus productivity 14) Your teams don’t say NO here. You need to know from their mood that they are not happy about it. This needs work 6/n #Singaporediary
15) Tenants don’t pay commission here. Landlords do. But if you don’t know, agents will happily accept. 16) Agents here are responsible through the lease period. They don’t disappear after lease handover. 7/n #Singaporediary
17) Life is good. Air is clean. It’s Super green. 18) First trip to the mall to buy things for your home, you are spoilt for choices. And you will over buy. Things you don’t need. But you will come back happy! 19) You can get Cleaners (thank god) 8/n #Singaporediary
20) Indian food is expensive. And it’s not even like yummy. The yummy ones are even more expensive. I’m still discovering. 21) Hotels allow delivery of outside food. 22) Deliveroo and grab food works. But lots of cancellation during peak hours. Order before. 9/n #Singaporediary
23) Hotel staff treat you as their own if you stay more than 2 weeks. I finished 4 and eventually check out end of 5th. 24) Breakfast served is the same every morning. If you are vegetarian, you will hate baked beans by the 3rd week. I do! 10/n #Singaporediary
25) People here help if you look confused or lost and if you ask. They mostly will take you up to the point. 26) we tend to speak very fast. Consciously speak slow so others understand you. English is something they know but not comfortable with. 11/n #Singaporediary
27) Singapore is indeed a country with different cultures. Take time to figure out. They don’t like loud. 28) I’m sill figuring things and have a Long way to go. So far so good. 12/n #Singaporediary
