1. So, let's step back and look at the big picture for corn now that we have the first planting progress reading for June. This is the updated version of a chart I have been using a lot lately. I honestly never imagined we would ever have this much corn unplanted in June.
2. 67% corn planting progress as of week #22 maintains our pace of averaging about 20% points behind the previous three worst years of the last 40 (93, 95, 96). @Grain1guy tells me this is probably true going back the last 50 years.
@Grain1guy 3. March Prospective Plantings report indicated that 92.8 million acres of corn. The 33% that is unplanted equals 31 million acres. Stop and ponder that. I think that is a true "Black Swan" event for planting corn in the US.
@Grain1guy 4. 31 million acres of corn unplanted as of June 2. Is it just me or is the corn futures market getting somehow desensitized to the magnitude of the supply problem we are facing? You have to have a pretty high yield expectation to offset the acreage loss that I see coming.
