I know we have no shortage of scandals, but this should really be the biggest story in the news right now.

I don't say this lightly, but this Census scandal arguably has even more damaging potential consequences than Trump obstructing the Russia investigation.
Just try and step back and look at the big picture.

We have documented evidence that Trump advisers deliberately sabotaged the decennial Census to undercount people in nonwhite communities, for the purpose of denying those communities representation and federal funds.
It is a tough call, but to me, that is more damaging to democracy than anything Russia did to us, and any blessing Trump may have given to that enterprise.

For one thing, it will have longer-term consequences and its effects will be more structural.

This is important, and it's arguably the same way Hillary Clinton was screwed. I remember almost no reporters asking her, "What's your plan for X?" It was always "Can you tell us about that time you did X?" She had pages and pages of plans and never got asked about them on TV.
Mind you, she still found ways to bring up her policy proposals! She crammed them into every interview and town hall and debate, but it never mattered because reporters always changed the subject to her opponents' attacks on her record.

Gillibrand is getting the same treatment.
There is no reason Gillibrand shouldn't be a first tier candidate. She has one of the most progressive records on legislation AND nominees. She's a senator from the fourth-largest state and her policy platform is solid. But you'd never know this from the way the media treats her.

There is probably no statement that is simultaneously so obvious and so anathema in American politics.

The creation of a superclass of people so wealthy they can do whatever they want with no threat of destruction by market forces is an inherent problem for capitalism.
For god's sake, if one thing should drive that point home, it should be Trump's taxes.

We don't know yet how he made his money or who he is in debt to, but we've seen enough to know he's lost more money than entire governments, and it hasn't affected his power or status at all.
A society that allows someone to lose a billion dollars through sheer incompetence, but still have enough money to manipulate the skyline of cities and run enough ads to trick people into giving him the most powerful job in the world, is utterly broken.

I remember when Trump tweeted that *everyone* agrees Dreamers shouldn't be deported.

Now apparently @PressSec says that's "too divisive" to be included in an immigration deal.
This administration never means what it says on immigration.

They say there's consensus on Dreamers, then block any action on Dreamers.

They say they support legal immigration, then propose cutting it dramatically.

Any hint of compromise fades like a mirage as you approach it.
All the while, Trump sits back, manufactures humanitarian crises and blames anyone but his own minions for them.

He suspended DACA, then said Democrats are to blame for no DACA authorization.

He threw kids in cages, let them die, then said he had no choice because of Democrats.

Brexit has made being pro-EU or anti-EU is the primary cleavage in British politics.

The Lib Dems have understood it. The Brexit Party has understood it.

The Tories and Labour are struggling still.
Whether it is *desirable* that this is so is another question. Corbyn seems downright annoyed that it is ("We want to talk about ending austerity!" you hear him scream).

But this is the basis on which a forthcoming election will be fought.

Keep on with Brexit or stop it.

Am I mistaken, or has no reporter been able to get even a "no comment" from Chris Garrett?
Restraint in not using his name was admirable when his main role in the case seemed to be Guy Who Ed Whelan Falsely Called a Likely Attempted Rapist.

But that's not his main role anymore! He's the *friend of Kavanaugh's* who *dated Ford* that summer AND was at the July 1 party!
When Kavanaugh is claiming to have no idea who Ford is, he was hanging out all the time with HER BOYFRIEND throughout the summer of 1982!

(Kavanaugh testified that Chris Garrett is the "Squi" in the famous July 1 calendar entry.)
