Don’t invest trust in untested relationships.

There are many reasons people don’t turn up for you in hard times. It may not be because they’re bad people. It could just be because they’re not as invested in you as you assume that they are or as you are. Time proves who you can or cannot count on. Don’t trust presumptuously.

Most of the disappointments people moan about are promises they made to themselves on behalf of the people in their lives, assuming that those promises are valid based on the posturing of these people. It’s not a wise thing to do.

Don’t trust that people won’t gossip about you or stab you in the back or betray you if they’re under pressure, just because y’all profess love to each other.

Don’t also assume that they will.

Just keep telling yourself that you are getting to know them better. Give it time.

We don’t eat dirt just because we are hungry. We are willing to delay hunger until we find a meal in conditions deserving of our treasured bodies. Same way here - just because we need people to trust or love does not mean we should do it with those who are available right now.
