Recently, the doc prescribed a drug that had no generic alternative yet. So, without insurance the cost was $548. For 30 days of blood thinners.
Unable to afford this, we made some calls and ended up getting an alternative Rx that does the same thing. That Rx cost $1.48.
Had to spend 6hrs running around, making calls and playing phone tag to finally reach the point where we could both obtain and afford medicine necessary to live right now. I wondered: what happens to the people who dont have the wherewithal to seek an alternative?
The question is rhetorical. I know what they do. They: go without, go bankrupt, drain their life savings, sell their car or house, start a GoFundMe, ration their pills.
