One of the reasons climate alarmism works so well:
When something bad happens, it gets blamed on climate
When nothing bad happens — you don't hear about it

E.g.: Planet had ZERO hurricanes from May 4-June 5, only second time since 1990.
When no major hurricanes hit US in 11 years (longest hurricane drought in history) nobody linked it to climate
Then back to normal, and every hurricane was climate caused
The reality? Since 1900, number of major landfalling US hurricanes *not* increased

PS recreated the data from aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/tcfaq/E23.…, which gives a *slightly* different tally (includes Sandy, whereas Klotzbach didn't) and doesn't include double hits). Here are the article findings, till 2017

Storms breaking up surrounding coral, washing up on beach, slightly increasing/rising area

Of course, instead, we're talking about flooding in the Mid-west.
And yes, that is a problem.

But remember, 1) even the US Climate Assessment says that flooding has both increased and decreased, and can't be attributed to climate

Working on Sunday, grateful for everyone realizing climate change not a horror-story but problem (2-4%), and doing the single-soul best to make the world better through effective policies (like tb, malaria, contraception, free trade) and not just making energy more expensive
(And yes, global warming is real, but the alarmist codswallop of 'horror' simply scares kids and adults, makes them accept hugely costly policies, while being untrue — cost about 2-4%, as shown by UN Climate Panel, here updated by Nobel Laureate Nordhaus, nber.org/reporter/2017n…)

THREAD| Draft of the #Climate Change Act, presented by (@bmu) this week: The proposal is a framework law, featuring elements from international acts, e.g. from UK (@theCCCuk). In contrast to the German Climate Action Plan 2050, it will be legally binding. #Klimaschutzgesetz
2| The framework law includes emission reduction targets, defines CO2 budgets for each sector, and clarifies responsibilities, as well as review, transparency & sanctioning mechanisms. Implementation measures for each sector will be detailled in 2030 programmes, due in Mar 2019.
3| Progress will be supported by an independent advisory group of 7 experts. Focus is on reaching the 2030 CO2 reduction targets, but the draft works towards at least 95% reduction by 2050. The remaining 5% to reach #netzero could be reached through compensation policies.

@RyanMKellogg Emissions of CO2 lead to global heating and therefore to untold damages bourne by future generations. Some economists, e.g. William Nordhaus, have used cost-benefit analysis to estimate a social cost of carbon, which then becomes a recommended carbon tax. /1

One of the most pernicious aspects of transphobia and misinformation about trans issues is how the general public have almost no concept of what hormone replacement therapy does for trans people, and the changes that happen to our bodies under the effects of HRT. A thread.
When I started HRT years ago, my body changed quite drastically, and sometimes in ways that surprised me. Breast development started, which was freakin' sore for quite some time, and within a year I was wearing a bra every day.

Yet a lot of people are surprised to learn this.
My body hair almost melted away, and I had a friend who was fascinated with this, she was stroking the peach fuzz on my arm and got all excited. She was amazed by all this. So was I of course.

But one of the biggest changes I went through was muscle mass drastically shrinking.

Hot take about this meme. It works so well comedically, because we read it from right to left. In cinematography for sitcoms. Regular plot devices enter from left e.g Rachels apartment. Crazy plot devices enter from right e.g Chandlers apartment
This is the XY axis in cinematography. Easily digestible, or likeable, normal, "good guys" enter from left X axis.Because in the west we read easily from left to right. Eccentric, conflict driven information or "bad guys"enter right to left, so we give the Y axis extra attention
To test this out.Try watching something like Fawlty towers flipped horizontally. It feels weird,& doesn't work as well.Basils desk is on the left, he maintains control here.Crazy problems enter from the restaurant on the right and create conflict.Flip it, and it's uncomfortable.
